Some Landscaping Tips for the New Homeowner

So you just purchased a new home and you want to improve the look and quality of your yard. Good landscaping can turn a drab looking home into a much more modern and beautiful home almost overnight. The good news is that when you think landscaping you may be thinking of back breaking work, however, not all landscaping requires such fierce effort. Really, small changes to your landscaping can make a huge difference. Below are some landscaping tips that will help you make the right decisions for your yard!

Don’t over-do it

The biggest mistake I have seen people make is going into their yard with hardy intentions of doing a complete overhaul. The biggest issue with this is not that you will not get it completed but that you will actually have so much work to do to maintain such a yard. Have you ever seen those yards with hundreds of items in their yards? Just keep in mind that everything you add the more it will clutter the yard as well as the more it will be to mow and weed eat around. Adding small and a few features often goes a long way in the long run. Keep things small and only add as you see the need to. Always keep logical reasoning behind everything you do.

Include some Perennials

One of the most frustrating things to do is to go out there early in the spring and starting working on your landscaping. Sure, the yard will look awesome until the fall. The problem is though that one year later nothing will have returned and you may even have empty dead spots where you have to replant flowers. Perennials are often more expensive, but if you have flower beds then it is highly recommended to include some plants that will come back year after year. This is almost like permanent landscaping and is definitely worth the money to have beautiful flowers come up year after year at the right times of the year.

Keep in mind the seasons

Lastly, you do not just want to plant things that are only beautiful in the summer. I have seen many people make the mistake of not thinking out how their yard will appear in the winter. Make sure to include some shrubs or bushes that will stay green year around. There are even some plants out there that will remain colorful all year around. Those are great additions to spring landscaping and planning for a year around beautiful yard.
